Öppet brev till Turkiets ambassadör

Dear Mr Ambassador,
Reports of the arrest of Swedish journalist Joakim Medin, while on a reporting trip to Turkey, are deeply worrying.
Joakim Medin is a reporter for our member, Dagens ETC.
We demand his immediate and unconditional release. We further demand that he is given immediate access to consular assistance from the Swedish consulate, that he is allowed to communicate freely and that he is permitted to contact his family and employer.
We are deeply concerned by any attempts by Turkey to limit freedom of expression. We note that Turkey is a signatory to the European Convention of Human Rights, which under Article 10 guarantees the freedom to receive and impart information.
We call on Turkey to respect the rights of foreign journalists reporting from Turkey, as well as the domestic media.
Yours sincerely,
James Savage, Chairman
